Support Disclosure Reform and Sign Our Petition
Our coalition made great strides by passing electronic disclosure of campaign finance reports last summer. The next step is to require more frequent and thorough reporting by “independent expenditure” groups that spend millions in mystery money to influence elections.
In 2013, a bill to require increased disclosure by electioneering groups passed the state NC House but died in the Senate. According to a recent report by the Institute for Southern Studies, $7 million of this mystery money would have been disclosed to the public in a more timely way if this law had been in place for the 2014 elections.
